planet_implosion

This is a very interesting breakdown of a planet implosion created by artist Mark Theriault whist working at Blur Studios. It's a stunning render that was created in three weeks using 3ds Max. Here are the specs:

  • Hand-cut planet pieces with mbFracture
  • All destruction done in Pflow with a script from Bobo that places geo to particle location
  • Fire and smoke done with FumeFX
  • Rendered with variety of solutions (V-Ray, Scanline, mental ray, Krakatoa)
  • Krakatoa was used for dust and ethereal effects
